Operators of a Metro Vancouver exotic animal rescue say more than 60 of the creatures in its care perished in a fire Saturday morning.
"Crews made entry into the building and found light to moderate smoke conditions," according to the Surrey Fire Service. "There was a fire contained to a heating unit located in one of the animal cages." The Urban Safari Rescue Society, located at 1395 176 St in Surrey, is "a registered non-profit society dedicated to the rescue and care of exotic animals and to educating the public about animals, their environments and the natural world."
