GRAND BAY-WESTFIELD, N.B. — Three communities in southeastern New Brunswick will split more than $5.1 million in federal funding to create new affordable housing in the coming years.
Funding through the Housing Accelerator Fund will help the communities of Grand Bay-Westfield, Harvey and Sussex launch initiatives to build a combined 160 homes over the next three years and more than 1,100 over the next decade.The largest chunk of funding, $3.
Grand Bay-Westfield will receive just over $1 million for its action plan to promote increased density, incentivize affordable housing, repurpose town-owned land and review infrastructure planning. Finally, in Harvey, $840,000 will be used to support six local programs helping establish a regional climate adaptation plan, accelerate development approvals, promote alternative forms of housing — including secondary suites and accessory dwelling units — and add a new housing database with mapping tools.
