Outlander’s Sam Heughan reveals secret meaning behind risky kilt scene
"I'm also curious...why the return of the kilt...to go fishing?" one fan tweeted to Heughan. The actor responded:"It was still illegal to wear a kilt at that time, punishment would be huge.
"Jamie can't risk it in the presence of the crown, especially potentially working for them. However, when he's alone, on his own land with no risk, he can reveal who he really is…." There is a historical focus on the banning of Scottish tartans in the show, and we see in a flashback, earlier in season six, that Jamie took the punishment for an elderly man's possession of his clan colours.
It is not the first time fans have discussed the inclusion of kilt wearing in the drama, as Jamie has worn one in front of soldiers before. In season five's opener, he wore one in the presence of the Crown.
