Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said it was “our responsibility to remember” in a commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks in remarks delivered Saturday morning in a parking lot on the west side of the Pentagon.Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, joined Mr. Austin in a remembrance that fell 12 days after the completion of the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan, a war spurred by the attacks two decades ago.

The attack claimed 184 lives, including 59 airline passengers and crew and 125 people at the Pentagon. Five hijackers died. Saturday’s ceremony began with a reading of the name of each victim lost at the Pentagon, a bell ringing between each name.
