Some Liberal MPs in the GTA and beyond want the federal government to seize a chance to intervene in Ontario’s controversial plans to open parts of the Greenbelt to housing development.

“Environment is an area of shared jurisdiction, and if there’s an opportunity for the federal government to stand up and look into things under federal legislation, that’s something that I think Canadians and Ontarians expect us to do,” said Chris Bittle, the Liberal MP for St. Catharines. “An important conversation has to take place around how we ensure that there is that green legacy for the future, and that those lands are there for future generations,” said Government House Leader Mark Holland, the Liberal MP for Ajax. “How can we use the jurisdiction that we do have to defend them?”
