"If he comes back to us, we know he had 27 goals, but whether he plays for us or plays for another team, we know he's going to get 40 to 45 goals again."

A league executive told Postmedia that DeBrincat’s camp has to work with the organization to help facilitate a trade, much the same way Matthew Tkachuk did with the Calgary Flames last year when he was sent to the Florida Panthers.

Sources say the Senators would like to get back someone who can offer immediate help as part of the return for DeBrincat. He scored 27 goals last season and played significant minutes on the power play.Article content “Once we get to a deal with a team, or we get close to a deal with a team, then I will give that team permission ,” Dorion said.”That’s the plan, to let the team speak with his representatives, but until that happens I don’t think it’s productive to have him talk to other teams while he still belongs to us.”Article contentWhile Dorion spent most of the day huddled with the club’s hockey operations staff at the club’s Nashville hotel, he opted not to get into the first round.

“I believe that we could move up from No. 108, whether that will be in the second or third round, there will be an opportunity to do that,” Dorion said. The Senators have a lot of moving parts to their roster, not the least of which is finding depth for the third and fourth lines, plus adding a goalie to help shoulder the load with Anton Forsberg next season.
