Sticking with Nick Arbuckle as their starter, the Ottawa Redblacks are looking to see more of a "point-guard mentality" from quarterback.
During Saturday’s 19-12 CFL season-opening loss in Montreal, Arbuckle threw three interceptions, all of them on deep pass attempts. He completed 19 of 35 passes for 176 yards.
“The big thing Nick has to understand, we want to play clean football, without turnovers,” said Dyce. “That’s our team goal. Turnovers are hard to overcome, especially on first down. We want to give ourselves an opportunity to make a play on second down. While we want to be aggressive, it’s got to be the right time. We have to make the right decision on it.Article content
The Redblacks are coming off seasons of four wins in 2022 and three wins in each of 2019 and 2021. So, the patience of the fan base is wearing thin. The team needs to translate the positivity built off training camp, and start beating opposing teams.“Every time we come out, we want to win. It’s that simple,” said Dyce. “We’ll continue to work on the things we believe will lead us to victory.
“We talk about it all the time,” said Dyce. “Our focus is us. There is going to be a lot of outside noise. Everybody has a right to an opinion. But that’s not what we focus on, we focus on ourselves. We know what we have to do, we know who we are. We work hard every day to get better. These guys are excited to play in front of what we hope is a packed house Thursday night.”
