General manager Shawn Burke is excited to see what Masoli can do with longtime CFL quarterback Khari Jones, who the Redblacks hired last month, calling the plays.
“Khari has a background as a bit of a gunslinger and as a high-offence guy, and Jeremiah’s best success came in that kind of situation,” said Burke. “I’m excited to see the two of those guys work together and I’m excited to see put together what he thought he was going to do last year.”Article content
“We saw it last year,” said Burke. “Guys who want to leave their previous situations, they want to know who’s spinning the ball. Jeremiah is well known through this league, he’s had a lot of success. going ask if he’s healthy, and I think by extending him and showing our commitment to him, it gives that answer in advance. It’s part of the package of selling it — that we have a commitment to win. If you don’t have a quarterback, you’re going to have a tough time winning.
As a Hamilton Tiger-Cat, Masoli was the East Division’s nominee for Most Outstanding Player in 2018, when he had 5,209 yards in completions and threw for 28 touchdowns.“Having a quarterback like Jeremiah under contract is a great thing,” said Burke. “In his short time here, he’s definitely shown what he brings on and off the field. We’re anticipating he shows a lot more of it on the field being healthy this year. We felt it was a win, win for all sides .
