The Ottawa Mission’s Christmas Dinner returned in-person for the first time in three years on Sunday. Volunteers handed out a record number of warm meals to those in need during the holidays.
“We are seeing incidents of hunger in the community like never before,” said Tilley. “It just shows the need in the community as the demand continues.” “It’s a lifesaver because I experience loneliness and depression. This is a time of year that’s really rough and the Mission is always there for us,” said one woman at the holiday meal, who didn’t want to provide her name to CTV News.
Tilley says many can’t afford to put dinner on the table for Christmas and the meal brings more than a full stomach.
