Approximately 5,000 Ottawa households were still without power as of Friday night, according to Hydro Ottawa, in the wake of Wednesday’s ice storm.
Gonthier said staff were prioritizing work to address downed, broken or hanging trees that are blocking streets or that may pose a risk to residents or property, including trees in parks.
About 23 traffic signals remained without power across the city as of 3:30 p.m., according to Gonthier, with 30 being run on temporary generators. He said staff were working to address the issue. Flashing or powerless traffic signals should be treated as a four-way stop. “The water levels are expected to exceed full supply levels over the next 48 hours and may result in flooding for low-lying areas,” said the RVCA on Thursday. “Parks Canada staff are closely monitoring the water levels in Bobs Lake and Christie Lake, and operations at the Bolingbroke Dam will take place as required, to balance the levels in Bobs Lake and Christie Lake.”Article content“We did receive a significant amount of precipitation.
The Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority said there could be a “significant increase” in levels and flows in the Mississippi and Carp River watersheds over the next few days with the rainfall of Wednesday along with melting snow. Residents who live in areas that have been susceptible to flooding in the past are urged to take precautions to protect their properties including ensuring that sump pumps are clear and in good working order and securing items that might float away.
