Gas prices increased seven cents a litre in Ottawa on Friday to an average of $1.85 a litre. Canadians for Affordable Energy President Dan McTeague says prices are expected to increase another seven cents a litre on Saturday to 192.7 cents a litre. McTeague tells CP24 that prices are forecast to drop seven to eight cents a litre on Sunday.
“So, there’s a bit of relief on the way and has a lot to do with the potential that Europe may be releasing some of its emergency supplies of diesel, gasoline, and to a lesser extent oil,” McTeague said on Friday. McTeague said Sunday’s drop in prices will be short-term due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East that has disrupted global supplies.
The price of gas briefly hit 191.9 cents a litre in Ottawa two weeks ago, before a 10 cent a litre drop in prices due to the switch from summer-blend to winter-blend gasoline. Diesel prices are expected to drop eight cents a litre in Ottawa on Saturday to 251.9 cents a litre.
