Ottawa‘s largest school board, the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, would not be affected by a CUPE strike because it has no CUPE members among its staff. The government backed down and rescinded that legislation. Bargaining resumed, but it reached an impasse on Tuesday night. The letter to parents from CEPEO said that, if there was a strike, students would shift to “asynchronous” remote learning at home as of Nov. 21, which would mean working on assignments on their own. If the strike continues on Nov. 22, virtual learning will begin with classes held online, the board added. CUPE members at that board include custodians, administrators, library technical staff and attendance officers.
