The latest vision for Lansdowne Park, presented Friday, includes two residential towers instead of three, and no more green roof atop the relocated arena. City council will vote on the plan next month.
Ottawa city councillors are no closer to providing a decision on a contentious $419-million deal to redevelop Lansdowne Park, ending two days of 10-hour discussions without a vote.Members of the finance and planning committees opted not to vote on any of the proposed motions to adjust the latest Lansdowne 2.0 proposal and will instead debate them at a special council meeting next Friday.
Managing partner of Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group Roger Greenberg , executive director of OSEG Foundation Janice Barressi and OSEG CEO Mark Goudie spoke to councillors at the two-day committee meeting. Many feared their exhaustion might limit meaningful debate. They suggested a few days to digest the dozens of motions to adjust the deal could inspire behind-the-scenes collaboration. But Coun. Shawn Menard, who represents the ward where Lansdowne Park is located, worried it may cut discussions short.
Under the first redevelopment deal, OSEG was on the hook for cost overruns from construction — and ended up shelling out $160 million. In Lansdowne 2.0 that risk is transferred to the city. Isabelle Jasmine, the city's deputy treasurer, later described that plan as the "simplified" version.
