placed star outfielder Anthony Santander and left-handed reliever Keegan Akin on the restricted list ahead of a four-game series against the Blue Jays in Toronto.
Right-handed pitcher Rico Garcia and outfielder Kyle Stowers have been recalled from triple-A Norfolk in corresponding moves. If Stowers appears in a game, it will be his major league debut. The moves suggest Santander and Akin could not cross the border due to an insufficient COVID-19 vaccine status. Unvaccinated people cannot enter Canada or the United States without a quarantine period.
Santander leads the Orioles with 11 home runs this season and is hitting .238/.337/.421 in 59 games this season. Akin has a 2.61 ERA with 30 strikeouts in 38 relief innings this season. Alek Manoah gets the ball for the Blue Jays in the series opener Monday night.
