When the illustration was first up for auction at Sotheby’s in London in 2001, it sold for around four times its estimated sale price, for a record C$148,400 , according to a Sotheby’s press release issued before the sale.The record for an item related to the book series was previously held by an unsigned first edition of “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” which sold for C$576,000 at Heritage Auctions in Dallas, Texas, in 2021, according to Sotheby’s.
