The National Arts Centre welcomed The Rock to Ottawa at the opening night performance of Come From Away on Aug. 22. The show featured the award-winning musical’s first all-Canadian cast and the fanciest after-show kitchen party west of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Co-produced by the National Arts Centre and Toronto’s Mirvish Productions, the show’s Ottawa run began with previews on Aug.
The musical’s co-writer Irene Sankoff—who penned the show alongside Lisgar Collegiate alumni David Hein—joined the cast to play 'Bonnie,' the local SPCA agent who watched over the passengers' animal companions, and a pair of rare bonobo apes.
