THUNDER BAY — A 21-year-old from southern Ontario faces several charges after a traffic stop led to the seizure of a loaded handgun and suspected drugs.
Provincial police said officers observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed along Highway 11/17 within Thunder Bay just before noon on Monday, and stopped the vehicle. Police said the investigation led to the seizure of suspected cannabis, along with suspected cocaine and fentanyl. The gun, cash, a radar detector, and other items associated with drug trafficking were also seized. The suspect's vehicle was also seized by police.
Charges against the accused, 21-year-old Rashawn King from Ajax, include two counts of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a firearm knowing the serial number has been tampered with, breach of firearms regulations, failure to comply with an undertaking, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.The charges have yet to be tested in court.
