Blowing snow and low visibility have caused several collisions on Highway 401 Dec. 23 — forcing OPP to close a section in both directions.

Shortly before noon Friday, Const. Ed Sanchuk of Norfolk County OPP urged drivers to stay at home and off the roadways.A collision scene involving multiple transport trucks on Highway 401 between London and Chatham-Kent on Dec. 23, 2022.According to Sanchuk, OPP detachments across Ontario responded to “hundreds” of collisions on Friday morning.“We’re seeing people driving right now like it’s still summer-like conditions,” he lamented.
“The roads are slick. You’re not going to be able to stop on a dime — even if you have winter tires on.”
