A new federally funded project has secured Austin Travis-County $2 million to battle the growing number of opioid overdose deaths.
"It can be a faceless problem if you allow it," said Adrienne Sturrup, Director of Austin Public Health.-Travis County saw 199 overdose deaths within the first six months of 2022 and 118 of those were fentanyl-related. The Travis County Medical Examiner's Office is set to release the total number of overdose deaths in April, but with the way the first six months went, 2022 is expected to be an unprecedented year.
