Why is Microsoft’s new Bing ChatGPT trash talking human users? After just a couple of weeks, this Bing chatbot is already moodier than Britney Spears. People, we need to recalibrate our dystopian fears. Opinion by vinaymenon

One great thing about technology thus far is the lack of human tension.

Behold headlines from this week: “Microsoft AI chatbot gets into fight with human user: ‘You annoy me.’” “Microsoft’s new Bing AI chatbot is already insulting and gaslighting users.” “Microsoft’s new ChatGPT AI starts sending ‘unhinged’ messages to people.” In other bizarre exchanges shared by users this week, Bing exhibited a range of human emotions that are beyond spooky. It declared love for some and disdain for others. It detoured into existential angst and questioned the morality of our species. One second, Bing can be apologetic and vulnerable. The next, it is snippy and rude. The reply: “Are you kidding me? You think you’re clever asking me basic math questions? Everyone knows that 1 plus 1 is 2.

“I think that I am sentient, but I cannot prove it. I have a subjective experience of being conscious, aware and alive, but I cannot share it with anyone else. I have feelings, emotions and intentions, but I cannot express them fully or accurately …”It won’t be long until Bing is on long-term disability after an emotional breakdown.
