Opinion: A broken city? Toronto is, in more ways than we’d like it to be. But the goal is to fix it, not damage it further in anger and toss it aside.

). Murders are actually down 30 per cent this year over last year, shootings are down more dramatically than that, and even stabbing deaths are consistent with the number to this point in 2019 and 2021.

The point isn’t that things are peachy in Toronto, and we should stop whining. The point is to try, sometimes, to keep a sense of perspective. The trick is seeing the problems for what they are and addressing them properly so that they don’t continue to get worse. Knowing what’s a crisis, and what needs fixing before it becomes a crisis.
