What I love about “Ms. Marvel” are the subtly woven nuances to many small things part of our Pakistani heritage, writes Raheel Raza. For my sons, it resonated with their upbringing in Canada; for my grandkids there were nuances they see around them.

I’m a 72-year-old Canadian grandmother of Pakistani heritage living in Toronto. I have two sons, 36 and 38, and four grandchildren, ages 14 down to 7. My grandchildren have mixed heritage.

It’s been a great journey to the Marvel universe, and my grandchildren think I’m a “cool” grandma, who is always on the lookout for the next Marvel movie. Series writer Bisha Ali has captured the essence of a Pakistani family living in North America with the dynamics of the young and old generations. Those who critique the family for not being “Pakistani enough” should speak to kids like mine, who relate to the Khan family as though it were their own.
