There is no running. .Decorum and etiquette are highly valued here. But with a membership that includes some of the titans of American capitalism, including billionaires Warren Buffett and, perhaps it’s fitting that there is no rule against one animalistic human instinct: shopping ’til you drop.
But as has become custom in recent years, the most coveted item in the shop is the latest edition of the Masters garden gnome. Launched in 2016 to little notice, the annual outfit changes on the white-bearded curio have earned it a cult following since 2019, when it was dressed in the Masters’ iconic white caddy coveralls and suddenly became a tradable online commodity. With a $49.50 retail price and a limited daily supply, the gnomes generally sell out not long after the golf shop opens at 8 a.
The phenomenon of the gnome becoming a hot item has led devotees to create a new rule: There should be no displaying of the Masters garden gnome in anyone’s garden.
