The lowest number of losses in a season in the modern NHL is eight, by the powerhouse Montreal Canadiens of 1976-77. It might have been the peak of the Canadiens dynasty, with Montreal losing the second-lowest number of games in 1972-73 and 1977-78, and the fourth-lowest in 1975-76. All of those teams won the Stanley Cup. The 1979-80 Philadelphia Flyers round out the top five, losing 12 regular-season games before falling in the Cup final to the New York Islanders.
Bergeron was a second-round draft pick in 2003, Krejcí was a second-rounder the next year, Marchand a third-round selection in 2006. They are the strength of the root system, with a combined 56-plus seasons in Boston. The draft added a Rocket Richard winner in Pastrnak and an elite defender in Charlie McAvoy . GM Don Sweeney acquired former Hart Trophy winner Taylor Hall from Buffalo in 2021 and pried Hampus Lindholm from Anaheim last year.
