” : Let me see if I understand this. According to what seems to be the case, city staff and others are confused and disagree on who is responsible for fixing shelters that are in disrepair. Aren’t shelters under the purview of the city? Doesn’t the city have a maintenance department with a director who oversees maintenance and building projects? Wait a minute. Wasn’t a director hired to oversee homeless strategies and solutions? I would think that this is a problem needing a solution.

These people need to get their act together. Where I retired from, it’s called having courageous conversations. A higher up clearly needs to delegate and assign accountability.Your front-page article reported the city of San Diego and the Housing Commission have budgeted $170 million this fiscal year for homeless services. Columnist Michael Smolens reports thein the city of San Diego was 4,801. This works out to $35,409 per homeless person, or nearly $3,000 per month.

Another article reported as little as $500 per month would enable some people to pay their rent and keep them from being homeless. You have previously reported there are at least 35 non-governmental organizations devoted to homeless services in San Diego.
