“What I would say to that is that I think it requires me to have a full family discussion,” said Dubas, whose contract expires July 1. “My family is a hugely important part of what I do. So for me to commit to anything without having a fuller understanding of what this year took on them is probably unfair for me to answer where I’m at. I wish I could give you more.
It was a surprise, but not a shock. Dubas takes his responsibility very seriously, and not just to the roster. He cares about the army of people he has hired, asks after them, is thoughtful toward them. It is no accident that in the flood of support he got from Leafs players, several mentioned the kind of man Dubas is, how he cares.
