Opinion: Ukrainian courage, resilience and resolve — together with allied hardware — have turned the tide of the war. Now help Ukraine finish the job.
On Friday, the world marks one year since Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The horror has raged for 365 days, 8,760 hours. Every hour a civilian in Ukraine is killed. Every day one or more children are murdered. Many more are injured or maimed.
We will honour the astonishing resilience and courage of the Ukrainian people and the Ukrainian Armed Forces. We will continue to support the volunteers who deliver food and medicine and aid to war-torn cities, the grandmothers who knit socks to raise money for soldiers, the farmers who attacked Russian tanks with homemade bombs and tractors.
After months of wavering, Canada and our allies finally decided to provide Ukraine with tanks. At the Munich forum, the U.K. will be the first country to give Ukraine “longer-range” weapons that can strike Russian arms and munitions depots far in the Russian forces’ rear. We need to give Ukraine aircraft and air defence systems to defend the skies and cities.
