Opinion: A poll earlier this week indicates that more and more Canadians oppose having Charles declared King of Canada and being our head of state.
My neighbour Brian surprised me a few days ago when he said he had always thought of himself as a monarchist and a big supporter of the British Royal Family.
Like my neighbour, I hold no ill will towards Charles and wish the best for the Royal Family and its often disfunctional members. While I’m trying to avoid the media onslaught about Charles and the monarchy that’s about to be unleashed on all of us, I will console myself with the knowledge that only 27 per cent of Canadians want Canada to remain a constitutional monarchy for years to come. That number was surprisingly consistent across the entire country.
