“I’ve always been writing and channelling since I was a teenager, but never as a craft to sell to the world,” she says. “It was just in my own little space.” “Munira works with unique material and it’s a very powerful voice,” says ILS creative co-director Mikhail Iossel. “The other two winners, Gladwell Pamba and Dennis Mugaa, are already accomplished writers in their own right. They all have very bright futures.”

“The idea was to assist talented young Kenyan and East African writers who otherwise couldn’t afford it,” says Iossel. “And for international participants, it’s premised on the notion that a disruption or a shift in your writing practices can be inspiring.”
