for six PFAS . Meanwhile, Canada announced draft PFAS “objectives” — which are weaker and do nothing to address the sources of this contamination, despite the discovery of these persistent chemicals in Quebec’s groundwater in 2021.
There is something deeply concerning about PFAS “forever chemicals” — they will persist for hundreds of years beyond their initial, momentary uses. Their longest life occurs as they go on and on harming people, animals, and our planet. There are thousands of PFAS chemicals on the market that have not been tested for safety by the federal government. At a time when we need precautionary, holistic decisions from the federal government, its attempts at protecting human and environmental health from PFAS and other toxics have been piecemeal, inadequate, and woefully delayed.
