While opposition politicians and the media are forever fuming about so-called scandals — alleged and imagined — this one is the real thing, and a very big deal.Sanjay Madan made off like a banditMadan pleaded guilty this month to theft of more than $47 million.
In fairness to Ford, his government wasn’t the first to fall victim to the “genius-style” scam, as a judge described it. Kathleen Wynne and Dalton McGuinty were in the premier’s office when Madan’s scheming first gained momentum. , then followed up with coverage documenting Madan’s modus operandi, culminating with his conviction earlier this month.
Was Lysyk so consumed by her penchant for publicity stunts that she forgot the basics of bookkeeping? Did an overstretched government fail to do due diligence at the height of the pandemic when rapid relief took precedence?that it’s letting criminals cash out without proper controls?
