and regain the premier’s chair she lost in 2019, she is promising to be more assertive with the federal government, no matter who is prime minister.“It’s not about who is leading the federal government, it’s about what I believe is the best role for an Alberta premier to take with respect to the federal government,” Notley said in an interview.
“For the last three-and-a-half years there has been a provincial government that has used the federal government in a very simplistic way as a political piñata,” said Notley, taking shots at Kenney as well as Smith’sand her anti-Ottawa initiatives, such as taking Alberta out of the Canada Pension Plan to set up a provincial plan.“We don’t constantly threaten the break-up of the country,” said Notley.
One of the obstacles she has to overcome is the negative impression among Conservatives of her premiership when the province hit an oil-price recession.
