A company that extracts gravel and other materials from land near Goodwood is looking to expand its footprint.

The operation takes up about 127 hectares on Concession Road 4, south of Wagg Road, with a CN rail line running down the middle. About 58 of those hectares have already been used up; the company has been doing rehabilitation work on those lands so that wildlife can move back in.Lafarge is looking to add a nearby plot – about 15.4 hectares – to that.

The expansion would be done in two phases. Lafarge says it plans to rehabilitate the land for wildlife once it is done extracting aggregate. As well, there would not be an increase in the amount of gravel being mined; the whole operation – including both old and new sites – would be limited to around 1.18-million tons of aggregate per year., the proposed expansion area is currently being used by farmers. It also has a barn and coverall building, which is used for indoor horse-riding.
