The Liberals ride a 12-election winning streak into the 2025 campaign for Ottawa South.
Posted: Jan 30, 2025 4:00 AM EST | Last Updated: February 21Ottawa South consists of the suburban area south of the Rideau River and Highway 417, butting up against the Greenbelt as its southern border.
Nearly 20 per cent of respondents to the 2021 census reported speaking neither English nor French most often at home, with more than 1,000 Arabic, Mandarin and Spanish speakers among them. Created in the early 1970s, the Progressive Conservatives won this riding five times in a row. The Liberals turned it in 1987 under Dalton James McGuinty, the father of former premier Dalton McGuinty, and have held it through 11 more votes since.Five candidates are running for the seat. Nominations closed Feb. 13.
Voting is now possible at local election offices. Advance voting locations are open Feb. 20-22.
