Toronto city manager, Ontario’s transportation minister on bike lane reimbursementToronto city manager Paul Johnson told Metro Morning’s David Common if the province legislates changes to bike lanes in the city, he wants reimbursement to include planning time and staff wages. When asked about that, Ontario Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria said the province will “reimburse the removal.
"But in the meantime, we're going to be very clear on what our total cost is — I don't think the City of Toronto taxpayer should pay twice for this." The province is going further through regulation, posting a proposed new rule that would require the province to remove sections of Bloor Street, Yonge Street and University Avenue bike lanes and restore them as lanes for vehicle traffic. The province's transportation ministerOntario Premier Doug Ford has complained about some bike lanes creating gridlock — in particular a stretch of Bloor that is about a 10-minute drive from his home in Toronto's west end.
The province has said that the separated bike lanes on University Avenue could be ripped out as part of a new plan to decrease gridlock.
