An Ontario restaurant chain that's steadily been taking over the province is now playing with the big dogs, after opening a new location on Scarborough 's so-called Shawarma Row .
Scarborough just recently saw the doors open on a new location of the shawarma joint — currently in the soft-opening stage — taking up residence on a strip of Lawrence East already known for its saturation of shawarma spots. "We were fully aware of the 'Shawarma Row' reputation of Lawrence Avenue, which only reinforced our decision," co-founder Yasser Ali tells blogTO.Sumaq Iraqi Charcoal Grill, made even more famous by Keith Lee, is just one of the incumbents on Shawarma Row that Shelby's will be competing with.
Shawarma Empire has legions of customers on Shawarma Row who will be hard to convince to go anywhere else.
