Ontario post-secondary nursing programs see large increase in applications

Despite the very public struggles Ontario's health-care system has gone through in the last two-and-a-half years, it seems more people than ever are eager to join the field.

Both the Council of Ontario Universities and Colleges Ontario say applications to nursing programs in the province were up this year.

"We've seen a rise in our applications here certainly," Sarah Hall, Dean at Algonquin College's Pembroke Campus tells CTV News. "I actually have a severe atopic dermatitis and have spent my entire life around doctors and nurses," says the 19-year-old. "Being in the health-care system, on the ground, in the trenches is somewhere where a lot of people feel they can make a difference," says Algonquin College nursing professor Melissa Jarvis.
