A new report by the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) reveals a concerning rise in homelessness across the province, with over 80,000 Ontarians experiencing homelessness in 2024. This represents a 25% increase from 2022 and a stark rise in rural and northern communities, where homelessness has surged by over 150% and 204% respectively since 2016. The AMO is urging the federal and provincial governments to allocate an additional $11 billion over 10 years to tackle this crisis, including funding for new housing units and support services.
