Karen Simpson, left, and her partner, Jeff Bauer, are nearing the end of the Island Walk. They said they are determined to finish it, not quite a year after post-tropical storm Fiona forced them to go home early.
“I thought, wouldn't it be cool to be like amongst the first to do the walk and also keep our money in Canada? Jeff Bauer, his partner, Karen Simpson started the 700-km Island Walk last year but were unable to finish due to the damage by post-tropical storm Fiona. The couple has returned in 2023 to complete the walk. - ContributedSimpson made the choice to return to Ontario temporarily but promised to return to P.E.I. and complete the walk they had started.
“If your mind decides that you've had enough, even if you can keep going, you are going to stop. I am pretty well mentally trained to get through that. Anything we start, it's important for us to finish it and get her done. It's being able to be proud of yourself for accomplishing something that's not simple.”• The Island Walk is a 700-km walking trail that loops around P.E.I. It takes approximately 32 days to complete walking 20-25 kilometres per day.
• The trail’s surface is made up of the following: 50 per cent is on the Confederation Trail - 350 km of hard-packed rolled stone dust;
