Ontario is one of the participants in the proposed Canadian securities regulator, along with British Columbia, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Yukon and the federal government.

Included among the task force’s 47 policy proposals thus far is a recommendation to split the regulatory and adjudicative functions of the Ontario Securities Commission and to separate its chair and chief executive positions.Article content continued “There is a growing consensus among policy-makers and legal experts, including a number of previous expert panels on Ontario’s capital markets, that a bifurcated model, with the regulatory and administrative functions separated, aligns with proper corporate governance practice,” the task force’s report says.

A spokesperson for Ontario’s Ministry of Finance said in an email that they “continue to engage with other jurisdictions participating in the CCMR initiative, as well as with the Capital Markets Authority Implementation Organization, the organization responsible for assisting governments with the implementation of CCMR.”
