The Auditor General of Ontario has criticized the Ford government for improper processes in the redevelopment of Ontario Place. The report highlights cost overruns and issues with the bidding process.

Ontario’s auditor general has criticized the Ford government for not adhering to proper procedures in the redevelopment of Ontario Place . The report, tabled at Queen’s Park, includes revelations about senior staff communicating directly with applicants even while proposals were being accepted. The estimated cost for the redevelopment has surged to $2.2 billion since the call for development was issued, up from the initial projection of $335 million to $424 million in 2019.

This includes new costs such as a $700 million construction estimate for the Ontario Science Centre, $280 million for parking, a $346.9 million increase in site-servicing costs, and $500 million for public realm improvements. Additionally, the report highlights that relocating the science centre now costs more than maintaining it at its current location, with the relocation cost rising to $1.44 billion from an earlier estimate of $1.047 billion
