Only three U.S. presidents rank lower than Trump. Can you guess which ones?
Everyone has their own idea of how to judge a U.S. president’s record, but to see how they all stack up on one list only adds to the drama and debate.to determine a ranking of presidents from best to worst using a set of criteria.
Subsequent surveys have been conducted in 2009, 2017 and 2021 following a change in administrations. Participating are historians, professors and other professional observers of the presidency drawn from databases of C-SPAN programming, research in the field and suggestions from C-SPAN’s academic advisers.
At the top of the 2021 list, you’ll find the presidents you probably expected like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelt and Dwight D. Eisenhower. More recent Commanders-in-Chief avoided the bottom of the pack, with Ronald Reagan finishing ninth, Barack Obama 10th, Bill Clinton 19th, George H.W. Bush 21st and George W. Bush 29th.
The list does not include Joe Biden, who is in his first term as 46th president. Lincoln has topped each survey since 2000. The list ranked Donald Trump 41st out of the 44 presidents, docking him for his moral authority, administrative skills and international relations. His highest rankings were in public persuasion and economic management .Franklin Pierce is just below Trump at 42nd, followed by Andrew Johnson at 43rd. Coming in last is James Buchanan.
