July 12 accident left five dead \u002D all construction workers \u002D and one seriously hurt
The accident occurred on July 12, 2022 while the crane was being dismantled after being used at a 25-storey construction site on St. Paul Street. The top half of the crane collapsed, landing on a nearby building.on the ground were killed, as well as a worker at the other site crushed by the crane, and one worker was injured.
According to WorkSafeBC, the Crown corporation that insures workers in the province is working closely with the B.C. Coroners Service on the file. This includes consulting with engineers and examining the crane’s components, sequence of events and work practises at the time of the accident. “Although the WorkSafeBC investigation is well advanced, it is not possible to provide a specific date for the completion at this time,” the corporations said.
WorkSafeBC is tasked with identifying what caused the accident and coming with a plan to prevent it occurring again.
