NEW: One-term Brampton North MPP Kevin Yarde loses rare challenge for party’s nomination to run in election.

A member of the party’s Black caucus, Yarde was defeated by businessman Sandeep Singh, who ran unsuccessfully for Caledon council in the 2018 municipal election and has served as marketing director at an immigration consultancy.Yarde, who worked for The Weather Network before entering politics, could not immediately be reached for comment.

It is rare for sitting MPPs to be challenged for a nomination but the New Democrats allows hopefuls to do so once they are vetted by the party. NDP Leader Andrea Horwath thanked Yarde for his service and said “Sandeep will carry on the NDP’s record of fighting for better for Brampton.”
