Although many were obviously disappointed to see the story take a break at such a momentous time, fans supported the decision and are happy to wait if it means Oda gets time to rest.
The manga industry can be brutal and has led to many creators falling severely ill, most notably Yoshihiro Togashi of Hunter X Hunter and Kohei Horikoshi of My Hero Academia. While working conditions seem to be improving lately, and more creators such as Yuki Tabata change schedules to take care of themselves, the industry is still incredibly demanding.
