The driver of the black Jeep Cherokee died at the scene, despite efforts of bystanders to help him.
The person died despite the attempts of several witnesses who tried to save the driver, said Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Alexa Hodgins.
“We understand that this type of event can be traumatic,” said Hodgins. “However, the actions of the witnesses are nothing short of heroic.” Police say a black Jeep Cherokee was travelling north on Boundary Road when it crashed and caught fire near Canada Way just before 12:45 a.m. Tuesday. RCMP did not say whether speed or alcohol were factors in the single-vehicle crash. Photos from the scene show a badly-mangled, burnt-out Jeep resting beside a tree in the centre median.
