Iris Has Befriended Every Pokémon She's Caught Close While Iris is introduced with Axew and Excadrill already in her possession, flashbacks reveal that she met Excadrill as a Drilbur, which was stealing food from other Pokémon. Iris eventually defeated it, and when it nearly fell off a cliff, Iris helped save it, leading to them becoming friends. Axew was entrusted to Iris as a fresh hatchling, and quickly grew to become her closest companion.
