The inspiration for one obnoxious hero revealed.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT My Hero Academia has a huge cast of characters, and each of those characters were inspired by something, but as it turns out, there's one student hero among them who's actually based on a Hollywood star whose biggest role was a supervillain, not a hero.

While you wouldn't always know it by his behavior, Neito Monoma is a hero student in Class 1-B at UA High School. He has a bone to pick with the students of Class 1-A, a group who he thinks considers themselves superior. The truth couldn't be farther from the case, of course, but Monoma often antagonizes the students of 1-A with class rivalry shenanigans, despite that rivalry being something most of them really couldn't care less about.

Monoma Draws Heavily from Dane DeHaan's Harry Osborn Upon comparing Monoma's design to DeHaan's appearance as Harry in the film, the similarities are immediately obvious. Monoma's sideswept hairstyle is clearly modeled on the one DeHaan is sporting in the movie, and Harry is as demanding of Peter Parker as Monoma is of Class 1-A. Both also have a refined sense of style, at least when Monoma is in his hero outfit, which is a tuxedo with a long tailcoat.

The two characters obviously have some major differences as well, but that's why Monoma is merely inspired by Harry, rather than a direct knockoff. While Harry falls down the path to villainy, Monoma's antagonistic tendencies are reserved for low-stakes competitions, and Monoma is actually quite heroic in My Hero Academia's final battle.

It's certainly interesting that the mildly antagonistic Monoma was modeled on a character who becomes a full villain, but at least he's managed to escape that destiny and tread his own path. Monoma was also lucky to get a bit of depth to his character, where his rivalry with Class 1-A is mostly derived from his own sense of inferiority about his copy Quirk.
