MCU Crossbones actor Frank Grillo reveals he rejected a AvengersEndgame appearance, though now regrets having done so. 'I was being an a**hole, being a bit petulant...'
One Marvel Cinematic Universe villain actor refused an Avengers: Endgame appearance, and has come to regret his decision. As the MCU movie featuring a veritable horde of heroes turning up to face off against Thanos, Avengers: Endgame provided an opportunity for any character to appear and make a difference.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Yet, despite having an opportunity to cameo in Avengers: Endgame, Crossbones actor Frank Grillo turned down an offer to appear in the movie. Crossbones, who was killed by Wanda Maximoff at the beginning of Captain America: Civil War, originally appeared as a friendly face for Captain America before revealing that he was secretly a Hydra agent.
There was supposed to be a lot more of Crossbones. I was the one character who I think should be in more of them, and these other idiot characters are still there. I was being an a**hole, being a bit petulant. [My son] said, 'This is going to be the biggest movie in the world,' and he was right. And had a beautiful time. They did the ten-year anniversary, Stan Lee was there, and I stood and went.
Where Crossbones Ranks Among Avengers Villains While Crossbones was never the most powerful villain, he was always a threat, thanks to his connection to Hydra. With Marvel suffering from a copycat villain problem even before Avengers: Endgame, most of the franchise's villains tend to be mirrors of the heroes, which can make for tiresome final fights.
Still, Crossbones can't compare to villains like the charismatic Thanos in Avengers: Endgame or the compelling Kang in Loki. While he may be more interesting than Whiplash, Aldrich Killian, or Malekith the Accursed, he only just ranks within the top half of MCU villains for many because of the aforementioned villain problem. It also helped that Crossbones actually fit the story that he appeared in.
