The fire has been put out and one person was hospitalized in critical condition, according to fire department officials.
Chicago firefighters extinguished a fire in a Lakeview high rise near DuSable Lake Shore Drive that left one person injured Friday evening.
Firefighters responded to a fire call on the 15th floor of a building at 412 W. Melrose St. put out the fire shortly after 6 p.m., a Chicago Fire Department spokesperson said. Firefighters were continuing to search and ventilate the building, raising the alarm to 2-11, which summons additional crew, equipment and resources to the scene, the spokesperson said.
Paramedics took one person to an area hospital in critical condition, they added. The cause of the fire was under investigation, authorities said. 2-11 alarm struck out at 421 W. Melrose. EMS P1 in place. Total transports=1 at this time. Media briefing will be held in front of the building in 30-45 minutes. Fire under investigation. Jch.
